Foreign Trade Data Warehouse

Export and import quantities and prices (value)

Foreign trade data describes the volume of exports and imports of wood-based products in monetary terms as well as terms of volume (tonnes, cubic metres) for the different products found within the sector (cut timber, plywood, etc). In particular, the change (increase or decrease) compared to the same period last year is examined.

Process for acquiring foreign trade data

Statistics Estonia does not publish foreign trade data on its public website in a form or at a level of detail that suits us. Consequently, the EFWIA has reached an agreement with Statistics Estonia on a so-called ‘special order’, which is carried out on a monthly basis and the result of which is sent in the form of a raw Excel file to the office manager (Kerli) of the EFWIA. Data are sent by Erika Orav, Senior Consultant, Marketing and Dissemination Department. Generally, the information is sent on the 9th day of the month, 1 month after the end of the month in question (e.g. data for the month of January are sent on 9 March).

Data reaches the data warehouse of the EFWIA via the following process. The unprocessed standard format xlsx file received by e-mail from Statistics Estonia is uploaded to a folder, after which the data are processed and stored in the EFWIA’s data warehouse. Generally, the data arrive in the EFWIA’s data warehouse on the same day when they are received via e-mail from Statistics Estonia (the 9th day of the month). At the moment, foreign trade data have been entered in the data warehouse starting from January 2021.

In order for fresh information to also reach the EFWIA’s homepage (displayed in Tableau Publicus), Kerli must manually refresh the data.
