Industrial output volumes

Industrial output volumes describe the production volume for wood-based products in Estonia in terms of volume (tonnes, cubic metres), broken down by the different products within the sector (sawn timber, plywood, etc). In particular, the change (increase or decrease) compared to the same period last year is examined.

Process for acquiring production volume data

Industrial output volumes “TO030: PRODUCTION OF INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS | Indicator, Product and Reference Period” are delivered to the EFWIA’s data warehouse from Statistics Estonia via the API interface. Statistics Estonia typically uploads up-to-date data themselves to their pages once per month, but the exact time of data publication varies somewhat from month to month. The robots of the EFWIA’s data warehouse check each data source every three hours (00:00, 03:00, 06:00, 09:00, 12:00, 15:00, 18:00, 21:00) to determine whether new data have been uploaded. When new data are found, they are processed according to the preset rules and stored in the EFWIA’s data warehouse. The data from the data warehouse are then instantly accessible by analytics software (Microsoft BI, Tableau, etc).

If a new file is added to the data warehouse or data are added (the number of rows increases), the data warehouse sends an e-mail containing a notice to that effect to Kerli. In order for up-to-date information to also reach the EFWIA’s homepage (displayed in Tableau Publicus), Kerli must manually refresh the data. At present, the act of displaying data on the EFWIA’s website is solved in this way, since it does not require a costly licence that allows for automatic data updates.
